I Wonder about Things…
Still in Michigan. The weather is grey today and colder. All the backyard critters must be snuggled up in their homes, staying warm this morning. There are no signs of life outside this window. Oh! Here is a peek of sun on my face and hands. Good morning sunshine. You are welcome here.

This is Algonac. There is a small skate park beautifully graffitied where the kids hang out. Every time I’ve gone by there are skateboarders or skaters. Hanging out without anything, including jackets. Forty degrees and no jacket! I saw a boy with shorts eating ice cream. Do I remember that in Rhode Island? I’d have to think back hard.
I wondered if there are forsythia bushes in Michigan. Those bright yellow flowers are first in spring. In RI I planted a forsythia bush in the far corner of my yard so I could see from my dining window the first flowers of spring. (Googled about Forsythia bushes) Michigan does have them as I suspected. This is a similar climate to RI.
I’ve seen black squirrels for the first time. They are chubby here. In Florida they are skinny. The first time I saw squirrels in Florida I wondered what was wrong with them! They don’t have to get chubby to hibernate. Winters don’t get cold enough. So now I am wondering about black squirrels. What other colors are there? What do squirrel nests look like? How do they survive the winter?
Still Wondering about Critters….

There are a couple of frogs\toads that are poisonous in Michigan. I’ve seen and heard the ones out in the pond on this property. I am curious what kind of frogs are they toads? They bellow at night when its warm. And sit by the side of the water, jumping in if I get close. When they jump, they make a high-pitched sound. I’d like to get a photo, but I don’t know if I will be here when they unveil themselves. They burrow in the ground below the water in the pond. Or under logs or such things as that. Also, they have a chemical “antifreeze” that will happen when the temperatures are below freezing.
