Trying to Live While Homesick…
I’ve decided not to be so hard on myself. I think I will be kind and gentle. And talk to myself in motherly ways. Sometimes fatherly.
Wisely, in actions as well as words.
It rains often here.
It rains homesickness down
onto my head and into my heart.
“It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair. That’s why you must walk so lightly. Lightly my darling…”
― Aldous Huxley, Island
Go For a Walk
Sometimes strolling, sometimes for exercise, we see interesting things while walking. We’ve moved into an apartment near a large park, so we try a different path every time we walk there. Yay for May arriving! Spring is here! Flowers are blooming and birds are singing. When the sky is blue, we hurry outside to soak up the sunshine. The sky is mostly grey and it rains. Then rains some more. It’s chilly still in comparison to Florida. I wonder if the lounge chairs at home by the pool miss us as much as we miss them? I miss being near my children. It’s the worst part of all the parts of homesickness.
Our first time seeing purple baby pinecones!
Sitting at a picnic table at Shelby MetroPark, the view was relaxing.

This is our chance to be creative and work on neglected projects. We have both carved out space to work.

Last night’s Apple Crisp
Our balcony looks over a pretty little pond with geese and ducks. And fluffy goslings to watch grow, and herons that visit for fishing.
Journal Excerpt

We moved into our apartment. Then we became sick with a terrible cold. And then we are sad and angry that we are here, we’ve been upset with each other and fussing. I haven’t felt like writing or doing art or anything else but sleep. And cook.
I like the apartment. Two Bedrooms and two large bathrooms. Laundry room. A decent kitchen. There is enough space for both of us to spread out with our creative endeavors.
I like the balcony (we are on the 3rd floor). We look out over a small pond. We see ducks and herons. There are geese that come and go. Bu the best part is a goose couple who had babies! We saw the mama sitting on her eggs when we were out walking. A few days later the goslings were swimming with their mama and papa, fluffy, yellow, and cute as could be! Proud parents were keeping them rounded up and teaching them all the goosey things they need to know. I’m so glad I picked this apartment with the pond view. It’s helpful for my aching heart.
Sometimes I see a blue heron fishing. An egret also comes looking for food and I get a feeling of home. It feels good and makes me sad at the same time.
