Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working. — Pablo Picasso.
I hadn’t painted in a while and decided to paint something, framing whatever happened! Desperate for my dry spell to end, I tried to work fast and loose. Tried not to overthink, which I inevitably do.
Here’s my fish that broke the spell. I like to imagine he is swimming against a current with a destination in mind.
He hangs on my bathroom wall, sending me a strong message to keep going.
Why is it so hard, and why am I my own worst critic? I draw a few lines and lay down some color and think “This is not like so and so’s”…or “What would this particular artist think of this?”
And what does it matter? We all have our unique fingerprint, a signature belonging to only ourselves. A painting, a song, a story is ours to give the world. No one else can do IT, that thing that is in our soul to do.
With a big sigh I’ll keep going.

My Own Abandoned Art
Something went awry and I couldn’t get what was in my head on the paper. Frustated, I left this poor man on a bench holding flowers. Waiting.
I thought I’d try black pastel paper. I did not care for the way the pastels worked on the paper and left this to try again on a better substrate. I like the colors of the tulips though!
